Most of us can’t resist the temptation to share what we are eating with our fur babies. Often, without thinking, we just give them a bite of what we have. Not all human food makes good dog food though. Giving our dogs the wrong foods can cause stomach upset or worse. So, can dogs have Jasmine rice?
Can Dogs Have Jasmine Rice
As is the case with many human foods, this is a case of in moderation. You don’t want to overfeed your dog any kind of human food. However, in small amounts, Jasmine Rice is OK for dogs.
I want to stress that you want to have cooked the rice before allowing your dog to eat it. If your dog eats too much dry Jasmine rice, then they can have several digestive and hydration issues.
When Can Dogs Have Jasmine Rice
The best time to give your dog Jasmine rice is when they are having a bad case of the runs. First, you will need to withhold other food from your fur baby for about 12 hours. Still give her water.
Then, give your pup a little bit of Jasmine rice three times a day. If the runny poop continues to be an issue after 2 full days, then take her into the vet.
Many dog owners supplement their homemade dog food with Jasmine rice. Rice is a great source of carbohydrates, and many premium dog brands use it. All you need to do is look at the ingredients list on the back of dog food bags, and you will see what I am talking about.
How To Prepare Jasmine Rice For Dogs
You Will Need:
- 1 Cup of Jasmine Rice
- 3 Cups of Purified Water
First, fill a pot with the water and turn it on high on the stove. Once the water is in a rolling boil, add the Jasmine rice. Watch for the rice and water to boil again, and then turn the heat down to simmer and place a lid on the pot.
DO NOT STIR IT. After about 30 minutes lift the lid to see if the rice is soft and tender and that the water has boiled to a low level. If there is still a lot of water left, continue to have the rice simmer.
Once the water level is low, turn off the heat source, and move the pot to a cool burner. Now, fluff the rice with a fork. Now it is ready to use.
How Much Jasmine Rice To Give Your Dog
You should only give your dog a couple tablespoons of rice at a time. And no more than three times a day if you are treating for doggy diarrhea.
If you are supplementing your dogs otherwise balanced diet, then only give her a couple teaspoons twice a week.
What To Keep An Eye Out For
Rice is safe for most dogs, but there are some dogs that can have an allergy. Signs that your dog may have a rice allergy are hair loss, itchy skin or infection.
